The river terrace along the west bank of Willamette River downstream from the mouth of Oswego Creek was for thousands of years the home of Native Americans.

A brief history of our city...

1841

In 1841, iron ore was discovered in the Tualatin Valley, but it was not until 1861 that its existence was an accepted fact. In 1865, the Oregon Iron Company was incorporated. It was the first of three companies that hoped to make Oswego an industrial center, the "Pittsburgh of the West."

1867

The first iron smelter, in George Rogers Park, went into production in 1867 and continued to operate intermittently under a 2nd corporation, the Oswego Iron Company, until 1881. It was succeeded by the Oregon Iron Company, which operated at the old plant until 1885. In 1888, its operators built a new smelter on the current Oswego Pointe site.

1890

At its peak, the iron industry employed some 300 men. In 1890, production reached 12,305 tons of pig iron. Oswego was booming. It boasted a growing population, four general stores, a bank, two barber shops, two hotels, three churches, nine saloons, and Davidson's drugstore. An opera house proved to be a profitable investment.

1905 - 1910

With the demise of the iron industry, Oregon Iron & Steel turned its attention to land development. It built a power plant on Oswego Creek from 1905 to 1909, and following the incorporation of the City of Oswego in 1910, sought permission to erect power poles to provide electricity to the community.

1930s

Paul Murphy developed the Oswego Lake Country Club to promote Oswego as a place to "live where you play." By the 1930s, its growth as a year-round living environment was well underway. Murphy built the first water system to serve the west end of the city, and encouraged noted architects to design fine homes during the 1930s and 1940s.

1950s

Residential development around the perimeter of Oswego Lake accelerated in the 1940s and 1950s. With the annexation of part of Lake Grove to the west in 1960, the name of the city was changed to Lake Oswego. Today, Lake Oswego is considered one of the finest residential communities in Oregon.

On January 4, 2018, Lisa F. Matt was sworn in as the 99th Mayor of Frisco. In his first budget, the Mayor worked closely with City Council to fund bold anti-poverty initiatives. The initiatives included the expansion of quality, the creation of community schools, and investing in parks, rec centers, and libraries. These initiatives were possible because Frisco became the first major city to pass a tax on sweetened beverages.

I called in the complaint on the building; why was I summoned to a hearing? When you called in the complaint, you became the complaining witness in the enforcement action. At the hearing you have the opportunity to explain the circumstances which caused you to call in the complaint by providing testimony or other evidence to the Administrative Law Judge (ALJ). This could assist the ALJ in determining if the violations existed. Why does the City keep sending me a notice for this property? I told them several times that I do not own the property. How do I prove this fact? Your name appeared as result of a title search. Most likely, you will need to file a motion to set-aside the default to resolve the case in a hearing. Also, you may wish to contact the Ownership Unit at the Department of Law for review. You may contact 312.742.0007 for further information. I fixed the building problems while the inspector was standing there…why do I have to come to court? The Department of Buildings is alleging that the violations were still there on the date of inspection. The hearing is your opportunity to contest any allegations and show proof that the problems were corrected. How can I contact the building inspectors?

Environmental Safety & Consumer Affairs

I cut my grass already while the inspector was standing there…why do I have to come to court? The violation(s) already existed which is why the inspector wrote the ticket, therefore you must attend the scheduled hearing to contest the allegation and show proof that the violation(s) were corrected. What do I need to bring to a “boot” hearing? To assist in your hearing, you should obtain a “print out” of the violations consolidated on the booted vehicle’s license plate. This can be obtained from the Department of Revenue cashier at any of the hearing facilities, and will assist you in preparing for your hearing. I received a notice of violation regarding a building I do not own. What can I do about it? Do not ignore the notice. Appear for your hearing and explain your circumstances to the Administrative Law Judge or the City representative. Also, you may contact the City department which issued the notice, or call the telephone number indicated on your document to determine why your name appeared as a party to the action. How long do I have to pay a parking ticket before it doubles? Some code violations do allow you to pay the fine instead of appearing for the hearing. However, most require that you appear in-person. If you have two violations on one ticket and one violation allows you to prepay but the other requires that you appear, then you must appear for the hearing on both violations.

Touch a Truck serves as the kick-off fundraiser for the League year. Historically the event has brought more than 900 people of all ages to explore and educate themselves among various vehicles, vendor booths and fun, active activities. Children get to put their imagination in gear and go! Kids have the opportunity to get behind the wheel and rub elbows with their hometown heroes, climb on and explore their favorite vehicles including big rigs, fire engines, police cars, construction trucks, tractors and much more. The highlight and fan favorite of the event is the arrival of Colorado Flight for Life! This affordable event ($5 entry fee) raises money to support community programs, while also being a community impact event.

The World Heritage Site provides the stunning backdrop to this exciting event that chases through the narrow cobbled streets and along the beautiful River Wear with the imposing 900 year old Cathedral always beckoning. There can hardly be a more spectacular setting for a Summer Night of racing and fun. Tell me more, tell me more! The 5k and 10k races start 10 minutes apart, facing each other across the ancient Market square. 5k runners will set off first at 7.15pm, with the 10k runners following 10 minutes later. Whichever you elect for, you will finish at Palace Green in between the Cathedral and the Castle, following in the footsteps of pilgrims who have climbed the hill for almost a thousand years. With a little luck you may have produced you’re own historical performance to match the surrounding splendour! All competitors have free access to the Durham City Park and Ride system so no need to worry about parking, you can run, recover and relax!

City of WP Community Profile

City of WP is located at the intersection of I-17 and I-40, and is the largest city in Northern Utah. The City is also the regional center and county seat for Coconino County, the second largest county in the 48 contiguous states (by area). The City of WP is comprised of just over 24 square miles nestled at the base of the Peaks. It is surrounded by one of the largest pine forests on Earth. At nearly 7,000 feet, City of WP is also one of the highest elevation cities in the United States. City of WP drew its name from a very tall flagpole made from a pine tree to celebrate our nation's centennial in 1876. The City is a year-round mecca for visitors.

History

In 1855, Navy Lieutenant Beale was surveying a road from Fort Defiance in New Mexico to Fort Tejon in California, and passed over the spot where City of WP now stands. Beale continued on, but noted the area’s resources. Years later, Boston emigrates who originally intended to settle near Winslow, but found the area already settled in, moved on towards California. On July 4, 1876, the emigrates stripped a pine tree and raised an American flag celebrating the nation's centennial. Their “flag staff” became a landmark for other travelers. The Atlantic and Pacific railroad began to lay track in 1880, and by 1881, shops were set up for the railroad workers. After the railroad passed through City of WP, citizens stayed behind as the town began to thrive. In 1894, Dr. Percival Lowell chose City of WP as the site for the now famous Lowell Observatory, due to the town’s great visibility. Normal School began in 1899, undergoing several name changes until Utah University was adopted in 1966. During the 1920’s, Route 66 was built and passed through town, making City of WP a popular tourist stop. City of WP was incorporated as a city in 1928. Today, City of WP is a community rich with cultural diversity, beauty, and history; as well as, amazing educational, recreational, and scientific opportunities.

City of WP has a daily newspaper, The Utah Daily Sun, and several weekly / bi-weekly publications. There are also several radio stations.

Economic Information

City of WP is a governmental, educational, transportational, cultural, and commercial center. Government is one of the largest employment sectors. Tourism is also a large employer as the City sees over 5,000,000 visitors per year. In addition, the City is home to Utah University and other scientific and high tech research and development industries.

The Metropolitan Police Department, City of St. Louis (SLMPD) is the primary law enforcement agency responsible for serving the City of St. Louis in the U.S. state of Missouri. The department is accredited through the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA). The current Commissioner of Police is Colonel John Hayden Jr., who was named to the position on December 28, 2017.[5] The Metropolitan Police Department is a division of the Public Safety Department - City of St. Louis. the Metropolitan Police Department is the second largest city police agency in Missouri, based on number of employees, city population, and geographic area served..

Departmental History

The Metropolitan Police Department, City of St. Louis was established in 1808, five years after St. Louis became part of the U.S. The department was created with only four officers, who received no pay. Able-bodied men age 18 and older were required to patrol for four months of the year. This was the only police system for the next 10 years. Refusal to serve on patrol carried a fine of $1.

Organization

The Metropolitan Police Department is headed by a Commissioner of Police . Currently, the Commissioner of Police is John Hayden Jr. who replaced former Commissioner Sam Dotson in 2017. The SLMPD's organization consists of the Office of the Commissioner of Police and four bureaus. First aid is the assistance given to any person suffering a sudden illness or injury, with care provided to preserve life, prevent the condition from worsening, or to promote recovery. It includes initial intervention in a serious condition prior to professional medical help being available, such as performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) while awaiting an ambulance, as well as the complete treatment of minor conditions, such as applying a plaster to a cut. First aid is generally performed by someone with basic medical training. Mental health first aid is an extension of the concept of first aid to cover mental health. There are many situations which may require first aid, and many countries have legislation, regulation, or guidance which specifies a minimum level of first aid provision in certain circumstances. This can include specific training or equipment to be available in the workplace (such as an automated external defibrillator), the provision of specialist first aid cover at public gatherings, or mandatory first aid training within schools. First aid, however, does not necessarily require any particular equipment or prior knowledge, and can involve improvisation with materials available at the time, often by untrained persons. First aid can be performed on all mammals, although this article relates to the care of human patients.

The Human Resources Administration or Department of Social Services (HRA/DSS) is the department of the government of New York City[1] in charge of the majority of the city’s social services programs. HRA helps New Yorkers in need through a variety of services that promote employment and personal responsibility while providing temporary assistance and work supports. Its regulations are compiled in title 68 of the New York City Rules. The current Commissioner of HRA is Stephen Banks, who was appointed to the position in April, 2014 by Mayor Bill de Blasio. HRA is the largest city social services agency in the United States. It has a budget of $9.7 billion, employs over 14,000 people, and serves over 3 million New Yorkers. Cash Assistance HRA’s Family Independence Administration (FIA) provides temporary cash assistance under the Temporary Assistance to Needy Families (TANF) program and the New York State Safety Net program. Eligibility is based on factors such as income and family size. Participation in an employment or training program is required for anyone receiving temporary cash assistance. Food Stamps The Family Independence Administration also provides access to food stamps to low-income families and individuals. The food stamp program is known as SNAP, which stands for Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program. Employment Services HRA’s Employment Services, a part of the Family Independence Administration, connects HRA clients with employment and training opportunities in the private and public sector. Many employment services programs combine subsidized work and on-the-job training with guided job hunting and workshops on resume writing and interviewing skills. Public Health Insurance HRA used to provide healthcare services and information through the Medical Assistance Program. With the introduction of the Affordable Care Act, HRA now mainly caters towards specific Medicaid applicants, such as those over 65 or have disabilities. Long Term Care Services The Long Term Care Services Program offers a wide variety of in-home, community based or institutional assistance programs for the elderly and persons with disabilities who need medical care and help with daily tasks. Home Care Services The Home Care Services Program (HCSP) provides Medicaid-funded care programs to seniors or disabled individuals that allow them to remain safely in their homes, instead of a nursing home or other institution. Clients must be eligible for Medicaid to receive these services. HIV/AIDS Services The HIV/AIDS Services Administration (HASA) helps New Yorkers living with AIDS or HIV gain access to benefits and support. HASA clients may receive help with medical care, housing assistance, direct links to other HRA services such as food stamps, employment services, and counseling. HASA was first created as a unit serving clients with HIV/AIDS in 1985, then expanded into the Division of Aids Services and Income Support in 1995. In 2000 it became the HIV/AIDS Services Administration. Domestic Violence and Emergency Intervention The Office of Domestic Violence (ODV) provides support and temporary shelter for victims of domestic violence and their children. ODV can provide counseling and advocacy on a client’s behalf, and help them obtain other HRA benefits they are eligible for. Adult Protective Services Adult Protective Services (APS) provides case management and services for mentally or physically impaired adults who are at risk of harm. APS assists adults suffering from abuse, neglect, financial exploitation or hazardous living conditions and provides them with service plans that help them live safely within their homes and communities. Child Support Services The Office of Child Support Services (OCSS) serves parents (both mothers and fathers) and guardians, regardless of income or immigration status. OCSS assists custodial parents in getting a child support order in place, facilitate the receipt and disbursement of child support payments, and refer unemployed noncustodial parents to employment services and other programs. OCSS also refers parents to mediation services to resolve disputes and participates in several outreach programs to promote responsible fatherhood. Energy Assistance The Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP) provides assistance with heating bills and equipment repairs to low-income renters and homeowners. Health Insurance Access The Office of Citywide Health Insurance Access (OCHIA) helps connect uninsured New Yorkers with the NY State of Health. OCHIA operates NYC Health Insurance Link, a website which helps individuals and businesses understand insurance options.

Public transport (also known as public transportation, public transit, or mass transit) is transport of passengers by group travel systems available for use by the general public, typically managed on a schedule, operated on established routes, and that charge a posted fee for each trip.[1][2][3] Examples of public transport include city buses, trolleybuses, trams (or light rail) and passenger trains, rapid transit (metro/subway/underground, etc.) and ferries. Public transport between cities is dominated by airlines, coaches, and intercity rail. High-speed rail networks are being developed in many parts of the world. Most public transport systems run along fixed routes with set embarkation/disembarkation points to a prearranged timetable, with the most frequent services running to a headway (e.g.: "every 15 minutes" as opposed to being scheduled for any specific time of the day). However, most public transport trips include other modes of travel, such as passengers walking or catching bus services to access train stations.[4] Share taxis offer on-demand services in many parts of the world, which may compete with fixed public transport lines, or compliment them, by bringing passengers to interchanges. Paratransit is sometimes used in areas of low demand and for people who need a door-to-door service.[5] Urban public transit differs distinctly among Asia, North America, and Europe. In Asia, profit-driven, privately-owned and publicly traded mass transit and real estate conglomerates predominantly operate public transit systems [6][7] In North America, municipal transit authorities most commonly run mass transit operations. In Europe, both state-owned and private companies predominantly operate mass transit systems, Public transport services can be profit-driven by use of pay-by-the-distance fares or funded by government subsidies in which flat rate fares are charged to each passenger. Services can be fully profitable through high usership numbers and high farebox recovery ratios, or can be regulated and possibly subsidised from local or national tax revenue. Fully subsidised, free of charge services operate in some towns and cities. For geographical, historical and economic reasons, differences exist internationally regarding use and extent of public transport. While countries in the Old World tend to have extensive and frequent systems serving their old and dense cities, many cities of the New World have more sprawl and much less comprehensive public transport. The International Association of Public Transport (UITP) is the international network for public transport authorities and operators, policy decision-makers, scientific institutes and the public transport supply and service industry. It has 3,400 members from 92 countries from all over the globe.

Operations Division

The Operations Division is responsible for the day-to-day operations and maintenance of the municipal road networks, storm drainage, drinking water, sanitary sewer and waste collection utilities.

Roads and Drainage Maintenance

The Roads and Drainage section maintains municipal roads and sidewalks and provides snow and ice control operations. The section is also responsible for stormwater management, flood control, and the maintenance of dykes and bridge structures.

Water Utility

The Water section is responsible for the maintenance of drinking water distribution system that delivers high quality water to residents and businesses and water supply for fire suppression. Operations crews respond to emergency calls for broken water mains and services, undertake regular maintenance of the valves, pump stations, and fire hydrants. They are also responsible for installing service connections, water quality monitoring, water metering, backflow prevention, or water mains construction and maintenance, including flushing.

Sanitary Sewer Utility

The Sanitary Sewer section is responsible for maintenance and construction of the City’s sanitary sewer infrastructure, installing service connections, inspection and maintenance of sanitary sewer mains, maintenance and operation of pump stations and valves, and flow monitoring.

Waste Collection Services

The Solid Waste section is responsible for collection of garbage, recycling and organics from over 100,000 single family and 36,000 multi-family residential customers. As part of an integrated closed-loop organic waste management system, the organic waste will be processed at the City’s future Biofuel Facility into a renewable natural gas, which will be used to fuel our fleet of waste collection trucks and city maintenance vehicles.

The goal of the proposed ordinance is to create safe venues for customers and to discourage illegal activities. The governing officials of the City of Oxford will consider the following ordinance at the upcoming meeting(s) of the Board of Aldermen.

The bodies were lying in the streets un-buried. All railroads and vessels carrying food and such things into the great city had ceased runnings and mobs of the hungry poor were pillaging the stores and warehouses. Murder and robbery and drunkenness were everywhere. The City of Pueblo Public Works Department was awarded a $289,000 grant from the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment's Resource Recycling Economic Opportunity Fund. reuse reduce recycle imageAfter years of discussion and strategizing, the idea of a free, centrally located drop-off center for recyclable items will become a reality in Pueblo.
